How to launch a webshop in a new country in 4 weeks

Written by Max Riis Christensen

Launching a webshop in a new country can seem like an overwhelming task, and it can be difficult to know where to start.

However, our experience tells us that if you have your e-commerce platform in place, launching in a new market can be done in less than 4 weeks.

Timeline for website launch in another country

As shown in the timeline above, there are a lot of things to do and you will be busy. But if your platform is prepared for new countries, we can help you with the local language skills and e-commerce knowledge you'll need to launch in 4 weeks.

Where to start?

First of all, you will need to make some decisions in terms of both payment and logistics partners, before you can get started on your technical setup and integrations between your e-commerce platform and your ERP and 3PL systems.

At this stage, you are often dependent on external partners and resources, in addition to stakeholders from your web agency or internal IT-team. The more stakeholders involved the more time is required.

How about texts?

Preparing your product texts can be time consuming - especially if your product range is broad. So, getting started on adapting your texts to a new market should be a priority from the beginning.

Adapting texts, like your terms and conditions, to a new market is not simply a question of translating them. The texts need to be localised and rewritten to comply with new business processes and local legislation in the new country.

Getting the word out

Selling in a new country can be tough. Your business/brand/product is likely unknown, you know less about the market and the local marketing channels and all together this requires a different approach.

You need to be more data-driven and it also allows you to use marketing initiatives you can't use in your home market.

A local hero

Before you launch we recommend letting a native e-commerce specialist, from the country you are about to launch in, test your webshop.

We call it a Site Check and our e-commerce specialists have a lot of experience doing this for clients from all over Europe. A Site Check is critical in order to secure the conversion rate you need, to grow in a profitable way.
